About Us
The work of an "SPCA" and a "Humane Society" are the same...just two different, but interchangeable, names for agencies whose mission is to protect and care for companion animals.
The original name for the SPCA of Central Florida was the Orlando Humane Society/SPCA of Central Florida. However, as a result of the mergers of two other local humane societies into the Orlando Humane Society/SPCA of Central Florida in 2001 and 2002, the first half of our name was eliminated. The merged agencies included the Humane Society of Seminole County and Osceola County Humane Society.
The new name - the SPCA of Central Florida - represents the Society's regional approach to problem-solving and providing programs and services for Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake and Volusia Counties.
What we do here
The SPCA of Central Florida is the leading animal welfare agency in Central Florida with two shelters and two spay/neuter clinics. They are located in south Orlando (near the Millenia Mall) and Sanford (near Flea World). We serve as an active resource center providing the community with a variety of much needed programs and services, all designed to bring and keep people and companion animals together.
